JustUpdateOnline.com – SEMARANG, The regional aviation landscape in Central Java reached a new milestone on December 23, 2025, with the official resumption of direct flights between Semarang and Singapore. This strategic air link, operated by Scoot, marks a significant step in restoring international connectivity at Jenderal Ahmad Yani International Airport.

The budget arm of Singapore Airlines will service the route four times every week, with scheduled flights on Tuesdays, Wednesdays, Thursdays, and Saturdays. The reintroduction of this service fills a void left since the pre-pandemic era when the route was managed by the now-defunct Silk Air.

The inaugural Scoot flight touched down in Semarang at 4:12 PM local time on Tuesday. Shortly after, the return flight to Singapore’s Changi Airport departed at 5:37 PM, carrying 177 passengers. This initial departure saw a strong start with a seat occupancy rate of approximately 80%. Utilizing the Airbus A320 family of aircraft, the journey between the two cities takes roughly one hour and 48 minutes.

This development follows the airport’s successful efforts to regain its international standing after a brief status change in early 2024. The Singapore route adds to the airport’s growing global portfolio, which also includes a direct connection to Kuala Lumpur launched by Air Asia in September 2025.

Sulistyo Yulianto, the General Manager of Jenderal Ahmad Yani International Airport, emphasized that this new service is a vital catalyst for the province’s economic growth. He noted that the direct connection reaffirms Central Java’s position as a competitive player in the regional aviation market and serves as a bridge connecting the local community to the rest of the world.

From a government perspective, Central Java Governor Ahmad Luthfi highlighted the profound impact this route will have on regional development. He pointed out that Singapore remains a primary source of foreign direct investment for the province. Data shows that between 2021 and the third quarter of 2025, Singaporean investors contributed over Rp27 trillion to the local economy.

The provincial government expects that the ease of travel provided by Scoot will not only facilitate business and investment but also provide a significant boost to international tourism, further integrating Central Java into the global economic network.
