JustUpdateOnline.com – Bandung, West Java authorities have successfully apprehended 30-year-old Taufik Hidayat in connection with the prolonged captivity and physical abuse of his partner. The suspect, who allegedly kept the victim, identified by the initials YTR (29), confined for nearly three years, was tracked down by a joint task force in the Bandung Raya region.
The West Java Regional Police (Polda Jabar) clarified that the suspect was caught through a targeted operation rather than a voluntary surrender. While Taufik’s former employer, Dadang Ahyar Ismail, claimed he had mediated a surrender after the suspect reached out via various WhatsApp numbers expressing distress over social media attention, police officials confirmed he was forcibly taken into custody on Wednesday.
Calculated Deception at the Boarding House
As the investigation progresses, chilling details have emerged regarding how Taufik managed to conceal his actions while living in a boarding house in the Cinunuk area of Cileunyi, Bandung Regency. Neighbors and the facility’s management were reportedly unaware of the severity of the situation occurring behind closed doors.
Mulyati, the wife of the boarding house caretaker, noted that the couple’s room remained locked at all times. Taufik frequently left the premises alone to run errands, always ensuring the door was secured from the outside. Although residents occasionally heard loud thumping sounds emanating from the room, Taufik consistently provided excuses to deflect suspicion.

To explain YTR’s absence and any perceived distress, the suspect fabricated a medical condition. He told neighbors that his partner suffered from extreme visual impairment, claiming she had a "minus 17" prescription and was nearly blind. He further alleged that he was saving 10 million IDR for a necessary eye surgery, using this narrative to gain sympathy and explain why she never left the room.
A History of Aggression and Criminality
The arrest has also brought to light a long-standing pattern of violent behavior by the suspect. Local officials in Nagreg, Taufik’s hometown, described him as a deeply troubled individual with a history of substance abuse and previous legal issues, including a prior 1.5-year prison sentence for assault and embezzlement.
Kusnaedi, the Village Head of Ciaro, revealed that Taufik’s mother had suffered a mental breakdown and eventually passed away, a decline he attributed to the ongoing stress caused by her son’s behavior. Furthermore, the suspect’s own father, Tata, recounted a harrowing incident where Taufik attacked him with a piece of wood while he was working in a field, simply because there was no food prepared at home.
The victim was finally removed from the boarding house on June 9, when her physical condition had deteriorated to the point that she required hospitalization. Witnesses recalled Taufik appearing distant during the transport, refusing to ride in the same vehicle as the weakened victim.
Taufik Hidayat remains in police custody as investigators continue to compile evidence regarding the years of alleged torture and unlawful confinement. He faces multiple charges related to physical violence and deprivation of liberty.
