JustUpdateOnline.com – Beijing, Chinese market authorities announced on Friday that the prominent electric vehicle manufacturer BYD is launching a large-scale recall affecting more than 180,000 cars. The move is aimed at addressing a specific manufacturing flaw identified in the brake pedal assembly.
The recall encompasses a total of 183,211 units from the company’s Qin and Tang lineups, specifically those manufactured between 2014 and 2022. According to the State Administration for Market Regulation, the issue stems from a structural weakness in the brake pedal’s stopper pads. These components are reportedly prone to cracking or completely detaching after prolonged use.
Safety officials warned that this mechanical failure poses a significant risk on the road. In certain instances, the defect can cause the vehicle’s brake lights to remain illuminated even when the driver is not depressing the pedal. This malfunction could mislead other motorists and increase the likelihood of traffic accidents.
BYD has committed to resolving the issue by providing free component replacements for all affected customers. Owners are encouraged to visit authorized service centers where the necessary repairs will be conducted at no cost.
In a separate announcement from the regulator, another Chinese EV producer, Nio, is also initiating a safety recall. This smaller action involves 686 vehicles under the Firefly brand due to a technical glitch in the steering system.
The defect in the Nio vehicles relates to a wiring harness that could lead to a sudden loss of power steering assistance in extreme circumstances. Nio has pledged to inspect the impacted cars and replace the faulty wiring free of charge to ensure driver safety.
